What guidelines should old people follow for brisk walking?

Q: To what extent should a 65-year-old male do brisk walking, if he has no basic problems and is of average built? Is 6 km/day up to 3 - 4 days a week of brisk walking (@1 km in 10m speed) good enough? This is basically to control weight, improve cardio-vascular condition and induce feel good and appetite/digestion factor. I log nearly 100 km of brisk walk in a month. Is it okay?

A:I suggest you cut it down to 4 km/day and do breathing and stretching exercises for all joints for 20 minutes, in addition to your walking.

  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • Get your joints checked every 6 months.
Following these simple tips should help you get well soon.
