What diet plan should a dialysis patient follow?

Q: My 35 years old relative's both kidneys are not functioning. He undergoes dialysis twice a week. His serum creatnine level is 10.5 mg/dl, blood urea 45 mg/dl and haemoglobin 8 g/dl. Please suggest an Indian diet for him.

A:He should take a high protein diet, avoid high potassium and salt and drink liquids in amounts dependent on urine output. The foods high in potassium are chocolates, dry fruits, fruit juices, and soups. Vegetables should be boiled, water thrown and then cooked to leach potassium out. The secret of doing well on dialysis is to get good thrice a week dialysis and eating high proteins and calories.
