What causes hiccupps?

Q: Dear Sir, My daughter is one month old and I find that just before or after her breast fed she gets hiccoughs please let me know the reason.

A:Hiccupps are due to irritation of the diaphragm which separates the chest from abdomen below which lies the stomach, which when gets distended specially after the feeds is responsible for the hiccupps. Only healthy babies have it and sick babies usually dont get this. This is physiological and considered normal, only thing you got to do is that during this episode dont feed her and keep her upright on your shoulder.
