What are neurilemmomas?

Q: I was operated for tumour in spinal cord at a hospital in Mumbai. The lab report of tumour is neurilemmoma. What does it mean?

A:Neurilemmomas are benign tumours arising from nerves. These tumours do not metastasise (i.e. spread to other sites). The primary treatment of neurilemmomas is surgical excision. A complete surgical excision is usually curative.
