Ulcerative Colitis

Q: I have been suffering from Ulcerative Colitis. I want to know what should be the conetnts of my daily diet. What fruits and vegitables can I take? Can I take fruit juice? Whether I should take fibrous foob or low-roughage food. Can I take spicy food? Can I take alcohalic drinks occasinally? Any other relevant information in this regard.Thanks.

A:Avoid spicy food, foods with less residue and moderate to fibre. Alcohol should be avoided completely. Fruits which are soft (papaya, mango, bananas) are OK. However, harder fruits like apples, peaches, pears, may be better tolerated after lightly stewing. Fish oils, and diet rich in Omega 3 fats isbeneficial. Milk may be avoided although curd may be well tolerated. Sample menu and list of permitted foods is enclosed.
