My son is experiencing pain in the ear after his tonsil operation, what should we do?

Q: My son is 10 years old and he has undergone adenotonsillectomy recently. He is complaining of severe ear pain and is not able to eat or drink anything after 5 days of surgery also. He has not passed motion after surgery; he is taking augmentin duo 10 ml, fepanil and zincovit. Is this a normal condition after surgery and how will he improve?

A:Ear Pain following tonsillectomy is a very well known complaint and it will pass off very soon. Reassure the child and coax him into inducing lot of swallowing movements like by drinking cold things or ice cream or simply asking him to chew a gum. Constant swallowing will make the pain go faster. Constipation generally doesn't last that long but since he has had no intake of fluids, so don't expect anything great from him. Relax and do see your doctor after 7 days.
