A:Cholesterol Blockages/ narrowing can be opened up by balloon angioplasty. The material can be removed by laser angioplasty, atherectomy etc. There is no evidence that these procedures are any better than plain balloon angioplasty followed by placement of a spring shaped scaffolding inside the artery called stenting. All these procedures are done without any surgery by introducing the balloons and stents through the arteries in the groin.
