Is my dosage of Eltroxin okay?

Q: I am 42 years old, weigh 55 kg and 5 feet 1 inch in height. I am suffering from hypothyroidism for the past ten months. Initially, the T3 level was 0.8, T4 was 4.2 and TSH was 20. I was advised 100 mcg Eltroxin (once daily), which I am taking regularly. Now the report shows T3 as 1.2, T4 as 8.5 and TSH as 1.5. What should be the dose now? How long should I wait after taking the tablet on empty stomach? Can I have plenty of water? Will there be a problem if I have lime and honey in warm water? I have lost considerable weight from the time I started Eltroxin. I go for brisk walk for 6 km every morning. My diet includes red rice for lunch, and chapattis for breakfast and dinner. I also have buttermilk and 5 litres of water every day.

A:You have hypothyroidism. Dose is perfectly fine. Continue with the same. You can get it monitored by just getting TSH done once in 6 months or even once a year. Targets are to keep TSH in normal range. There is no need to go for such a strict diet. No special diet is recommended for hypothyroid patients. To me your weight loss seems to be due to a very strict diet and exercise regimen. Half an hour gap is good enough between tablet and tea / breakfast. Lime water with honey can be taken in plenty.
