Is my baby suffering from TB?

Q: My 8 months old baby boy has been suffering from recurrent fever, cough and cold and has reacted positive to Mantoux test (24 mm). The doctor has declared that he has tuberculosis and has put him on the relevant medication. We are to continue the medication for the next six months. Is our baby actually suffering from TB?

A:If your doctor is certain that your baby has tuberculosis than he should respond to the medication. There should be a difference in four-six weeks of medication. If there isn't a response than the baby would need to be reinvestigated to find the cause of fever. Tuberculosis is a fully treatable disease.
