Is methotrexate used to treat JRA?
Q: The doctor diagnosed me as JRA. My ESR is 84 mm and Hb is 9.1 g/dl. I also have thalassaemia trait. I want to know how can I lead a normal life with JRA and what are the side effects of Methotrexate with a dose of 7mg three times a week?
A:If treated properly, one can lead a normal or near normal life with JRA. The dose of methotrexate that you mention is not conventionally used in treating JRA - it is used only once a week and not 3 times a week. Your treating rheumatologist should be the best person to guide you. If you are not under a rheumatologist then you should consult one.
