If I start exercising again after a long gap, will it affect my health?

Q: I have been exercising since I was in college, that is, when I was 20 years old and since then I have been working out and taking breaks in between. Now I am 30 years old. Do you think if I start doing exercising now once again, it will affect my health in the long run as I used to do weights.

A:Well, congratulations for starting a good habit again! You must keep in mind now that you have less time to do as much as you did when you were younger, so you must fit the schedule within your available time limit. A good way to do that is to compound exercises that work many muscle groups at a time. Like squats and lunges for the lower body, push-ups for the upper body and work the midsection with as many back extension exercises as abdominal crunches. The idea is to get back slowly so that the body gets accustomed to the new routine and the risk of injury is low.
