How to treat poor or non functioning kidneys?
Q: My right kidney is functioning very little - 3.6% compared to left kidney 96% (as confirmed by IVU and radio nucleide study). Blood and urine tests are normal. Please advise whether I should go for operation for removal of right kidney or keep it as such and is there any chance to revive the kidney?
A:Your right kidney is functioning 3-6 % as seen IVP & radionuclide study. I need to know the cause of poor or non functioning of your kidney. Ultrasound of kidneys and bladder is important to give more information in this regard. I also need to know your age. I hope there is no urine infection or infection in the right kidney. I need to know all these before I can advise you about the possibility of revival of kidneys or surgery.
