How to manage palpitations?
Q: I am 32 year old female. Since last two and a half years, I have Atrial fibrillation (A.F.), for which I was admitted in C.C.U. 4 times. Sometimes I also have a severe headache (migraine) problem, and am taking Inderal 3 times 20mg. Twice or thrice every week palpitations are occurring. I have one 7 year old daughter. What are the precautions required and how can I get rid of this heart problem?
A:If atrial fibrillation has been diagnosed as the cause of palpitations, you require a complete work up to identify any specific underlying cause, which is correctable. Drug therapy is useful and is the initial option. In case symptoms persist and are bothersome it would require a possible electrophysiological intervention. It would be desirable for you to contact a specialist unit of which several are present in the city.
