Q: I have a scar on the right side of my chin due to an accident I suffered 5 years ago. My problem is that hair do not grow on the scarred area and I am unable to keep a french beard. Is it possible to get hair tranplantation on the scarred area? I have read that Follicular Unit Transplantation is a very successful technique resulting in very natural and long lasting hair transplantation. I would like to know which doctors in Delhi or anywhere in India are proficient in this technique. I would be ever so grateful if you would answer my query.

A:If the scar is not very big, not a hypertrophic scar or keloid and the surrounding skin can be stretched, then the simplest would be to excise the scar and stitch the surrounding normal skin together to fill the gap. If done properly by a good plastic surgeon, one should get a thin hair line scar which will get covered by the nearby hair. Scar tissue is not likely to support a graft. You should consult a good plastic surgeon. Dr Mahesh Mangal in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital should be able to do a good job.
