How long will my fracture take to heal?

Q: I am a 22 years old male. My radius and ulna got fractured two months back. I was operated and a piece of bone was taken from my elbow and was fitted in the radius with plate. The ulna is fine now but there is some gap in the radius. How long will the fracture take to heal?

A:Depending on the location of the fracture in radius, it may take anywhere from 12-16 weeks for the fracture to heal. Often times the radiological signs of healing lag the clinical healing. At 2 months there should be signs of healing like callus formation. If there are no signs of callus formation then it might be a case of non-union. I would recommend you continue to follow up with your doctor in the next few weeks.
