How can vitiligo be treated permanently?

Q: My 23 years old friend is suffering from vitiligo for the last two years. Both his father and grandfather suffer from this disease. My friend is taking homeopathic medicine for this and recovering also. He was having small patches on legs and one arm, which have been treated now but he still has some patches on his eyes. I just want to know whether this disease can be cured permanently and should he continue with the homeopathic treatment? How much time will he take to get treated?

A:Vitiligo is an auto immune disease. It is familial in only a very small percentage of cases. A good majority of cases respond to treatment. Some recover fully and some partially. A small number may not respond at all. How much time it will take to recover is unpredictable. After a variable period of time, the disease becomes stationary. However it can become active once again at an unpredictable time. How many times this will happen cannot be predicted.
