How can the diagnosis of typhoid be confirmed?

Q: I am a 25 years old male suffering from fever for the last two days. I have now been diagnosed with typhoid fever with an H antigen value of 1/40. How can the diagnosis be confirmed? How can typhoid be treated?

A:A Widal test for typhoid is not carried out with just 2 days history of fever as in your case. It only starts becoming significant after around 5 days of fever. In your case, a titre of 1:40 is negative and does not convey any information as it was done too early in the course of illness. Meet a doctor and get a blood culture or repeat Widal after 72 hours to see for any increasing titre.
