How can I make my son eat salty food?

Q: My 6 months old son does not like to eat any salty food like rice-dal, khichadi, dal water, etc. He only likes to eat sweet food like cerelac, rice-kheer, sooji kheer, ragi kheer. Is it all right to give him only sweet food? How can I introduce salty food to my son?

A:Please introduce different flavours and different textures so that your baby learns to enjoy different types of food. If you get a baby used to sweet food it is unlikely that he will enjoy food that is not sweet. At the age of 6 months you should not be adding either sugar or salt to his food. Preferably food cooked at home with milk alone should be sweet enough but if you need to then you should add fruits for sweetening rather than sugar. Dal and rice cooked and mashed with a little milk or butter should be tried without any salt added.
