For how long do I need to take medicine for frequent urination?
Q: I am 53 years male experiencing frequent urination and pain while urinating. My ultrasound was done and the doctor prescribed me Dutas 0.5 mg at bed time daily for prostrate enlargement. After taking the medicine for two days, I am feeling better. How long do I need to take the medicine?
A:Dutas is a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor which helps stopping further growth of prostate, or may help reduce its size over a period of time. This drug takes long period to act. The response to your symptoms of frequency and pain are unlikely to be the result of this drug, having taken it only for two days. Drug has to be given for long periods, for years to get and maintain the effect.
