Does tongue tie need an operation?

Q: My son is ten years old. Few drops of saliva fall through his mouth while speaking. When he was young some body pointed out that his tongue is attached with skin in the mouth. Is this the cause of the problem? What is the remedy for the above problem? Which medical expert should we consult for this? Does this involve some procedure? How big will this be and how much time will it take?

A:While speaking spit will occasionally spray out of anyones mouth. It is not a cause for concern. What you seem to be referring to would be a tongue tie. This rarely needs treatment, if ever at all. Please do not do any thing unless there is a major problem with speech clarity.
