Does Thyrox affect fertility?

Q: I am a 26 years old married woman having an euthyroid goitre problem. My weight is 60 kg & height is 157 cm. The doctor suggested me to take Thyrox 50 mcg daily for 2 months. I don’t have any child; will it affect my fertility? I had a missed abortion last year. Please advise.

A:You have not mentioned about the size of goitre. I suggest you to undergo FNAC and Anti-TPO test to know the cause of goitre and one ultrasound to know the exact size of gland. If small just get under observation only. Taking medications (thyrox) will not help much it can reduce the progress of goitre and may be helpful in marginal reduction in size. As you are planning to undergo pregnancy you should not take this treatment as this will produce artificial thyrotoxicosis, which can affect your pregnancy.
