Does pigeon chest need treatment?
Q: My daughter is 14 years old. Her chest has not fully developed yet. According to the orthopaedic specialist, she has deformity in the right side of her chest. The right side of her chest bones are extraordinarily developed and the left side is normal. As per a senior orthopaedic there is no problem except the social appearance and there is no deficiency in her spine. Please let me know what could be the possible treatment for this?
A:The condition seems to be Pectus Carinatum or pigeon chest. If the condition is not causing any symptoms and it is purely cosmetic, it does not require any treatment. Any drastic reconstruction surgery is almost never indicated.
