Does my daughter have tuberculosis?

Q: All test reports of my daughter for T.B. came negative except Mantoux test which came positive (about 10 mm sq area). Is it T.B. or not?

A:You have not mentioned the details about the other tests for TB which were done, nor the clinical details of the symptoms your daughter is suffering from. Mantoux test is a delayed hypersensitivity test, and a reading of 10 mm indicates a positive test; but that said and done, it only means that your daughter was exposed to the TB bacilli some time in the past and it does NOT indicate an active infection per se. The clinical profile (symptoms and clinical findings) would help to finalise the diagnosis, and exclude other conditions. Please stay in touch with your doctor, who will decide the further course of management.
