Does hare lip require revision of nose correction?

Q: My 22 years old daughter was born with hare lip. She underwent surgery at the age of 3 months but was not corrected to our satisfaction. The doctor advised us to wait till she was18 or 9 years old, as she requires a redo of the whole thing including corrections of the nose. Please advise.

A:A cleft lip (hare lip) corrected during childhood does need revisions once the child is older and the growth is complete, sometimes there might be corrections of the nose which might be required, depending on the type and severity of the cleft. It is quite a common problem and can be corrected to a significant extent. Whether the corrections are complete will depend on the severity of the cleft and the present status. Any plastic surgeon will be able to correct the problem and do the needful as now your daughter is 22 years. So please consult any plastic surgeon in your city and he/she will take care of the problem.
