Does hair transplantation cause scarring?

Q: I underwent hair transplantation six years back. At the root of the transplanted hair, the skin looks elevated. Will the elevated skin become normal in due course of time?

A:Unfortunately, hair transplantation (HT) done in previous times, made use of plugs which were of a slightly larger size - called macro-grafts, and these resulted in scars and elevated skin. Nowadays, HT is done by the follicular unit technique, using micro-grafts and mini-grafts, and here no scars are visible, and the results cannot be differentiated from natural hair. I am not sure which technique was used in your case. There should be some softening of the elevated skin in due course of time, but 6 years is a long time. You need to examined clinically to come to any diagnosis.
