Distonia
Q: I am 55 yrs old and since 1966 working as stenographer in government service. Since more than 10 to 12 years I am suffering from ache from neck to wrist and the little finger of right hand. According to neurologists, it is focal distonia which is uncurable. What should I do? Presently taking no medicines but doing yoga and meditation. Please suggest.
A:Pain from the neck to the wrist and little finger can be due to a variety of causes, including irritation or compression of the nerves in the spinal canal. Dystonia has, as a principal feature, abnormal action of muscles causing deformity of the affected limb. The story provided by you does not mention such a finding. I suggest you provide the complete details of findings noted by your neurologist. This may help. Alternatively, you might like to consult a senior neurologist in a larger centre such as Mumbai.
