Children - meningitis vaccination

Q: My son is six months old. When going for usual vaccination, my doctor suggests to give brain fever vaccination for my baby. Kindly intimate me whether it is necessary at this stage? At what age should vaccination for brain fever be given and how many dosages should be given to the baby?

A:I am not certain which vaccine your doctor is referring to. I have consulted a doctor from India. We think that it is the vaccine to prevent meningitis with Haemophilus influenzae type b. If so, I strongly recommend it. It is given to infants under a year of age as three injections a month apart. Your baby is at the right age to give it.
