Children - leucoderma

Q: My daughter is four and a half years old. Recently I have observed a white spot on the right eyelid (upper portion of the eye, near the eyelash, below the eyebrow). Now the spot has grown a little (very much visible). Please guide me about the disease and the possible solution.

A:It is, I hope you appreciate, very difficult to be certain about the diagnosie wihout actually seeing your daughter. It would, however, seem that your daughter is developing a small patch of leucoderma. This might at first instance seem discouraging to you but it is not so. Most children (and adults) respond to treatment for leucoderma fairly well. It is particularly easy in children and on the eyelids. You should therefore consult with a dermatologist who could confirm the diagnosis and advise about appropriate treatment. I am reasonably confident your child will improve.
