chest pain

Q: I am 38 years old, working as Secretary in an oil company in Abu Dhabi for past 7 years, my nature of job is to work at a computer continuously for 8 hrs. I have chest pain for past 10 months; pain starts from left side of the chest and spreads over left arm upto finger tips. Many times I checked ECG & BP but they were normal. No Doctor is telling me the reason for the pain and prescribing pain killer tabs. I would like to know the reason for my chest pain, and a remedy for that, as I am taking pain killer tabs and am afraid it could lead to some other problems due to side effects. I have two kids (Son is 5 & daughter is 3 year old). Please help me.

A:In your history, you have not described in detail about the nature of your pain - whether the pain is on exertion or at rest, intensity of pain before and after meals and how it is reduced. I would advise three investigations: Stress Test, Ultrasound Abdomen and X-ray Cervical Spine. After these tests, I may be able to come to some conclusion regarding the nature of your pain. It is NOT safe to take pain killers regularly.
