Can I get insurance for my unborn child?

Q: I am 32 years old living in Qatar. My son is 7 years old. He was suffering from ventricular tachycardia which was detected when he was 3 years old. Doctors say he might be having it since birth. He was taken to United States where the problem was permanantly cured. I am 6 months pregnant. I have had two miscarriages before this. Please suggest some insurance for the unborn baby.

A:As per what I understand you want to obtain an insurance cover in view of your forthcoming delivery. There are two possibilities here: A cover for the child A pregnancy cover for yourself Please note that for the above, following is my opinion : To pick up a health insurance cover in India, the minimum age stipulated is 3 months. Therefore this cover is not possible right now. In any individual Mediclaim policy, pregnancy is not covered under insurance. This also therefore would not be of any relevance to you. The only possibility for you is to find out if your employer (or the employer of your spouse) has any medical benefits/coverage that may allow you to avail these facilities.
