Can I apply lacto calamine on my son's chicken pox scabs?

Q: It has been 14 days, since my son acquired chicken pox. He is 6 years old. His scabs have still not fallen. There are some on his stomach, back & legs. He had fever and severe throat infection on the third day along with shivering. The doctor suggested antibiotics for the throat infection. Some of his scabs were filled with pus, which have now subsided. I have still not started with his normal diet. We are non-vegetarian and I do not put oil in his food. The doctor has given us a cream called Fenistil gel in place of lacto calamine. What needs to be done about his diet? Should I start with lacto calamine lotion?

A:The patient can start using Calamine lotion right away. Once all scabs have fallen, start applying Johnson Baby Cream at least 3 times a day. This will soften out the scars and lighten the colour. Avoid exposure to sun for 6 months. There is no restriction on diet. Let him eat what he enjoys most.
