Can a stent be removed safely in a child?
Q: My son had a PUJ obstruction in his right kidney and a pyeloplasty surgery was done (the baby was 5 months 7 days old then). The doctors have inserted a stent that would be removed after 6 weeks. Is there any complication involved as the stent would be removed under anaesthesia. Could you please explain the process? We are travelling abroad within one week of the stent removal. Will it be safe to travel?
A:Normally stent removal is not a big thing and can be done as a day case surgery under general anaesthesia. You can certainly travel after a week of this, all other things being well.
