Can a person with one kidney fast with no water intake?

Q: My husband's one kidney stopped functioning after a surgery for Chyluria and the second kidney is working fine. How much should be his daily water intake and what should be his diet? Secondly, will there be any harm if he fasts without taking any water the whole day?

A:His daily water intake should be as per his thirst. He should avoid dehydration and so - fasting without any water the whole day is not advisable. Dehydration can lead to formation of stones in the long run.
