Are there any food items that should be avoided during cold and fever in children?

Q: I have a 1.5 years old son. When he has cold/cough/fever, are there any types of food that should be avoided? For instance, the elders say that tomatoes and oranges should be avoided when the child has cold. Can you please tell me the vegetables/fruits that should NOT be given to a child with with fever/cough/cold?

A:There is no need to avoid tomatoes and oranges, all the more because these have vitamin-C and will prevent a further bout and aggravation of the cold and cough. There are no vegetables that should not be given to your son, you can give him all vegetables provided they are cooked in a healthy and nutritious manner, ensuring that you don't over cook or undercook the food.
