Are my pancreas producing enough insulin?
Q: I am a 35 years old diabetic patient. I eat rice and fruits on a daily basis. How do I confirm that my pancreas is still producing insulin? My glucose level is fasting 98 mg and pp 138. Further, I take Daonil (5 mg) daily. What are the side effects of Daonil tablet?
A:Your blood sugar level of 98 and 138 mg% is itself the biggest proof that your pancreas is still functional and capable of producing enough insulin to maintain normal blood sugar. In excess dose, Daonil can produce severe hypoglycaemia i.e. low blood sugar, which is comparatively more difficult to treat. No other major side-effects, but best avoided in old age group.
