Am I on the right drug for complete RBBB?

Q: I was diagnosed to have hypertension and complete RBBB last week after a medical examination for chest pain. My doctor prescribed Metoprolol Tartrate 50 mg. After reading your article and other comments on the Internet, I was concerned that this beta-blocker may worsen my heart. What medication do you recommend?

A:I think it is very difficult to prescribe medications based on just history. In any case, complete RBBB is not a contraindication to use of Metoprolol and therefore if a doctor has prescribed beta blockers, you can certainly use them because this is not high grade block but I would repeat once again here that such decisions should be taken by your treating cardiologist who has access your ECG and other clinical details.
