Allergy - bananas and fruits

Q: I am suffering from allergy since six years. First of all I was affected by hair fixer, now I have allergy from banana, grapes, dry fruits etc. I feel irritation in throat & ears whenever I take any of the above mentioned eatables. A hair fixer causes irritation and redness in my eyes very badly. I use cetrizine S.O.S. which provides me relief.

A:Banana allergy is sometimes a cross-reaction to latex (rubber) allergy. If the hair spray contains latex or a cross-reacting protein, this may explain your symptoms. If you are allergic to latex, it is important that you let medical staff know if you have to have an operation. This type of allergy would normally cause immediate hives or nettle rash at the site of contact with rubber, such as balloons etc.
