53 diarrhoea cases reported in Shimla

With 53 fresh cases of diarrhoea reported in Shimla, the total number has gone up to 170 since its outbreak last week. The crowded locality of Sanjauli is the worst hit. Health workers are blaming it on use of contaminated water.

Stung by a deadly outbreak of diarrhoea in the region, hundreds of locals in the picturesque hill town of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh have been admitted to hospitals to undergo treatment for the disease. The disease, caused by the consumption of contaminated water, has spread like a wild forest fire across Shimla and has left scores of people reeling from the terrible ailment.

Displaying symptoms such as severe stomach infection and vomiting, patients have been steadily streaming into hospitals and nursing homes. The locals alleged that the water supply in the region has been contaminated.
