Dr Venk Mani graduated from Calcutta university. Most of his training after graduation has been in the U.K. After passing the MRCP from Edinburgh Royal College of Physicians, he specialised in gastroenterology in the Manchester group of hospitals, mostly at the Hope hospital working with Prof. (Lord) L.A. Turnberg. His training in pancreatology was under the guidence of the late Prof. H.T. Howat at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. Later he set up and developed the speciality of gastroenterolgy and endoscopy at Leigh & Wigan hospitals in Gr. Manchester where he worked till a year ago. He is an elected fellow of both London & Edinburgh Colleges of Physicians as well as the American College of Gastroenterology.
His research & publications have mostly been in Inflammatory bowel diseases and peptic ulcer disease. In the past he was an examiner at the Manchester university medical school and Hon. clinical teacher at the University college medical school, London.
Dr Mani has served as post graduate tutor to the Royal College of Physicians, London at both Leigh Infirmary and Wigan Infirmary. He has now retired from the health service and is actively involved as a registeredvolunteer with the stroke association of UK assisting the education of patients and carers.
