Why is my wife having back pain after delivery?

Q: My wife gave birth to a baby boy last month. She was given a spinal anaesthesia at the time of delivery. Since then she has been suffering from back pain a lot in the morning and evening. Now, she has been medicated with Flexon (paracetamol and ibubrofen) and an analgesic ointment, but no relief. Can you please advise what to do now?

A:She should consult a physiotherapist and take some external measures (hot packs, ultrasound therapy etc.) and some exercises. She should also follow dos & don'ts the physiotherapist advises. These problems may be posture related after delivery, (unaccommodated posture for breast feeding) and very unlikely to be related to a spinal problem. There is no need to worry.
