Why does my ankle get twisted so frequently?

Q: I am a 30 years old woman. I am prone to frequent ankle twisting. In the last 10 years, I have met with twisting of my left and right ankle around 7 times each at different intervals. Every time it pained, so I took rest and used a crepe bandage. After a few months of healing I again met with the same and repeated the whole cycle. I am depressed and extremely worried about this recurrence. The doctors say that the ligaments are partially damaged and are loose, and that why I am more prone to ankle twisting. I am looking for a permanent solution for this problem. Please suggest me, what should I do?

A:Your problem seems to have originated from the inadequate treatment of the first episode. Ligaments need some time to heal and if subjected to further injury during that critical period, healing gets impaired. However, in your case the treatment should be towards avoiding any further injury by preventing the twisting of ankle and it can be achieved by wearing a brace (commercially available) which can also be worn inside your shoe.
