A:If there is no preceding/associated skin disorder, then the recurrent bald patches in the eyelids are probably due to alopecia areata. Usually there are other features of this disorder elsewhere over the body. A dermatologist should be able to make the diagnosis without any difficulty. Depending upon the other features and the extent of the problem, appropriate therapy is decided. In most cases Minoxidil lotion (not in the eye) and steroids are effective.
