What is the treatment for macroprolactinoma?

Q: I am suffering from macroprolactinoma. My initial prolcatin level was 1087. The tumor measures 3.2 x 2.7 x 3.1. My endocrionologist has advised me to take Dostinex (Cabergoline) thrice a week and my prolcatin level has come down to 320. The size of the tumour has come down to 2.7 x 3.1. When will I be completely cured? Can the medication be stopped in the near future?

A:Macroprolactinomas often have to be treated lifelong. If you have no visual defect, just continue cabergoline at the lowest dose required to keep prolactin levels normal. There is no major long term side effect of this medication.
