Q: My Father is 73 years old He slipped and dislocated the hip joint. Ball and socket gap was dislocated. He was at a hospital in Mumbai for 37 days with water bag weights on the leg. Now he is on the bed in the house, doing physiotherapy. What do you advise to counter his weakness being on bed all the time?
A:There could be many reasons for weakness in a patient who is lying in bed. 1] General body weakness, for which you can give a good nutritious diet. 2] Deep breathing exercises are good for general well being. 3] Strengthening exercises for hip, knee and ankle. 4] Non weight bearing standing after 6/8 weeks. 5] Walking in walker. 6] Active exercises for upper limbs.
