What causes delayed healing of wound?

Q: My 38 years old brother-in-law met with an accident and got operated five years back. The wound was also not healed. He also underwent a fusion surgery after cleaning the infection. He is non-diabetic, but even after 15 days of surgery, his wound has not healed yet. How can his wound be healed?

A:Delayed wound healing could be due to many causes like local infection, underlying dead tissue, specific infections, poor blood supply, anaemia or vitamin deficiency, low albumin level, oral drugs – cortisone, immune compromised status and repeated trauma. I normally recommend hydrogen peroxide irrigation, application of Deca-durabolin cream and to keep the area elevated.
