Treatment options for keloids
Q: I am suffering from a skin disease called keloids for last three years. It is a swollen patch of roughly 40 mm X 25 mm on the upper part of my chest. There is irritation when my clothes rub against the keloid. Doctors say that it can not be removed/cured by surgery. What is the treatment for this disease?
A:Keloids have two or three treatment options- i. inject the lesion with triamcinolone injection, or ii. use silicon gel sheets which are available in all surgical shops for three two four months, or iii. cryosurgery followed by a carbondioxide laser. It is not recommended to operate upon a keloid as it would lead to its recurrence.
