suffering from SLE

Q: I am 27 yrs old and have been diagnosed as suffering from SLE. Since last 2 years the line of treatment adopted is Lariago 250 mg daily at night, Prednisolone 10 mg daily for the first one year then on alternate days. Had some large protein content excreted in urine - detected through 24 hrs urine test, but the creatinine is normal, no wbc/rbc in urine. Therefore was prescribed Azoran 1 daily for 3 months. Now its stopped, since 2 weeks. The problem is since last 4 days there is a nagging pain in the lower abdomen and there is some gas problem too. Should I take this for a Renal problem?

A:It would seem that you have been managed quite appropriately, over the last 2 years, since the diagnosis of SLE. Your present symptoms could suggest a renal problem or indeed could be an intercurrent gastro-intestinal problem. A urine routine and microscopic examination would help to clarify this. However, the best would be for you to see your treating rheumatologist and to remain in regular contact with him/her.
