Skin - patches on skin

Q: I am having white marks on the right side of my neck and just above the shoulder. I observed this a month ago and consulted a doctor. I am applying a cream and he told it is due to fungus. But even after applying it for a month I cannot see much improvement. Please suggest me an alternative.

A:Depigmented patches occur mainly in vitilgo and a few other less common conditions. Hypo pigmented patches occur in conditions like T. versicolar, Hansens disease etc. Sometimes clinical examination alone is sufficient to make a diagnosis. At other times investigations may be required. Treatment is therefore according to the diagnosis. You are probably applying Efaderm cream which is a kind of moisturiser.
