kidney stones - diet

Q: My husband has been detected with kidney stonesrecently. He has been prescribed some medicines including cistron. Please can you suggest some diet. I find almost all sites refer to what not to eat i.e avoid red meat, calcium rich food etc. I am unable to find out what exactly to eat. I would be obliged if you could suggest any diet for him.Regards,Rosy

A:A normal diet with the plenty of fluids (upto three litres) is recommended. In the absence of the knowledge of the nature of the stones avoid excessiveintake of spinach, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, other oxalate rich foods to be avoided in excess include amla, chocolate and almonds and nuts. Low fatdairy in moderation is fine. However, calcium supplements may be avoided.
