Is leucoderma hereditary?

Q: 1) Is leucoderma genetic? and is it possible that the skin condition can occur in children/grand children of a person having leucoderma. 2) Can a 3-year old child whose grandmother had leucoderma also have the same skin condition? Can it occur in a child that young?

A:The exact cause of leucoderma is not known. In a small percent of people there is a family history of leucoderma. It is surmised that genetics does play some, perhaps minor role in causing leucoderma. A child of 3 can develop leucoderma regardless of whether his grandparent has leucoderma or not. It is also possible, even probable, that the grandchild of a person with leucoderma may not get the disease.
